Oshawott is a good starter choice. There aren't many good water types in Unova, but he's one of them.
Lilligant and Sawsbuck are both great choices for grass types.
For heavy hitters, you have several choices, and you may want to take a few of them. Darmanitan, Scrafty, Krookodile, Haxorus, and Braviary can all do a ton of damage, but Scrafty is for faggots
You'll need an electric type for the flying gym, and your primary choices are Zebstrika or Galvantula. You can get Zebstrika much earlier, so you can train him up more, but he's generally not as powerful as Galvantula.
