Seriously, digimon is amazing. I think pokemon could take a few things out of DW's book, for example:
More fusions
Rare alternate color, alternate typing mons (for example a silvery steel/dark tyranitar or a white ice charmander
Incredibly hard unique bosses littered around the world to find (not a crappy veteran trainer)
More varied environments
A gym (like from DW2003) where instead of training stats you train EVs
Card game in game, complete with tournament
More pokemon which evolve based on other party methods/ pokemon which evolve into multiple forms when given hold items which they go on to use
