People seem to ignore that nostalgia =/= liking EVERYTHING you saw as a child.
An example of nostalgia is simply liking something from your childhood, even if it isn't something your 'rational' adult self would like if you saw it today.
For instance, I like Dunsparce. I caught one, I used it in my Crystal playthrough, I loved it. However, now that I'm an adult, I also think it's design is pretty much random "lol idk what we can do with this" shit put together.
Nonetheless, I still love it. If I saw it in Gen V, I'd probably complain and say it's horrid with its huge head and nonsensical design.
I'm sure there's a kid out there who started playing Pokemon at Gen V, caught a Palpitoad, thought "wow, this fucking sucks," used it, had it evolve into Seismitoad and thought "holy shit this guy is a badass."
People forget that kids do play Pokemon. Their experiences aren't much different from our own, even if the Pokemon designs have changed over the years.
Nostalgia isn't just "I saw this as a child and therefore I'm defending it." It's more "I bonded with this thing as a child and that's mostly why I think it's awesome."
Don't get me wrong. If you can think of rational reasons for liking your Pokebro, great for you. But that doesn't mean you liked it for rational reasons in the first place.
