Why do HMs even exist? And if they must, why do they have to be terrible moves (besides Surf)?

I kind of agree. They should be trainer-learned sort of, if you have a pokemon in your party that could learn the move, you can use it in the world regardless of if they've actually learned it or not.

They were important for making sure you couldn't bypass things in the storyline in the games, and in the first two gens tech limitations meant items were awkward.
Nowadays there is no excuse, they should all be made into items now. Just make Surf and Waterfall into TMs and drop the rest, they benefit nobody.

Surf is the only HM worth having both for battling and because water exploration is cool, the others are literally useless. Don't even have them for items, just find smarter ways to stop from going where you shouldn't be able to go.

Or hell, just make HM's learnable by every pokemon AND good moves.

They are all idiotic ideas and you know it. I mean seriously? A fucking jetpack? The point of HMs is to reinforce the idea that humans are dependant upon their Pokémon. All they need to do is change the way HMs are handled, not make them into retarded fucking items.

Make fly a priority move
Strenght a rock type moove with high crit chance
Rock smash base 70 power and deals extra double damage to steel and rock types before damage type+damage calculation.
Cut a base 20 multihit move
Flash electric type version of dragon-rage + lowers opponents accuracy
Rock climb now 100acc and base 60 power dual hit moove
Dive nao 100 base power plus paralyse chance

Maybe you're right, but the idea of owning a Master Sword sounds tempting.

Also I feel like cut needs the biggest buff of all hms. 75 Dmg maybe?

Now they still exist because Gamefreak is afraid to change much of anytihng, even though HMs being mandatory are a much-maligned part of the games.

Keep the badge requirement and make the move and the ability to surf/fly whatever outside of battle independent of knowing the move. Any pokemon that can learn surf can surf you across water without knowing surf, flying pokemon can fly you without having the move fly, etc.
