The most important (or not) question about character customization in XY:
Is it possible for a player character not to wear a hat?

That's only if you don't choose her as a playable character. The same thing happens with Calem if you don't choose him.

You can SEE them without a hat, but can you PLAY as them without a hat?

If the girl on the bottom and the boy with the purple hair on top are actual customizations and not just NPC icons or something, yes we can. But the bottom one looks exactly like a Lass so I'm remaining cautious until we get a better look at how customization works.

They said in the Q&A that NPCs you fight get registered in the PSS too
