Dear /vp/ why do so many of you hate gen IV? I personally like the story 10x better than the one in gen V (both versions) and I liked the pokemon that it introduced. What are your reasons for not liking gen IV?

I don't hate any Gen. As for IV, it introduced some of my favorite pokemon and some I hate, I think it lacks on the story department, I liked the underground, I like the map to some extent.

I don't hate any gen, but Gen IV definitely had the least memorable and weaker Pokemon out of any generation IMO.

They overdid the evos/prevos of older Pokemon for my taste and a lot of them are just plain dumb looking (Lickilicky, Probopass) and they could have done with a LOT less legendaries. Heatran, Regigigas, Shaymin, Manaphy, and Phione all should've been saved for another generation or never existed to begin with.

Its cool if you like it OP, but its just not for me I guess.

Horrible starters, worst new pokemon (a few of the best too but they don't make an entire game). A fairly annoying story, but worst of all?

THE REGION WAS UGLY AS SHIT.

JUST....FUCK

The cities were generic looking as fuck with few exceptions(aside from being in themselves, non distinct in function), there was way too much mountain/cave bull crap, and the routes were uninspired and colorless.

I mean I didn't care intensely much for gen 3 but traveling the world there was a treat for the eyes and senses, especially in immersion (that feel when the soot starts falling around you...). Gen 4? None of that excepting the snowpoint region and floaroma town.

Main complaints. It's serviceable though. Hopefully Gen 6 fixes them all.

I hate Gen V's level grind. Like shit, I try to keep my pokemon around the same level but its just really hard to do without grinding on audinos. Plus, I hate grinds in general. At least give me enough trainers to level up on to where I have a chance against the gym.

I do like how gen V did make the elite 4 actually tough ass trainers. The grind to beat them was nice and I thought it would be cool to have that in most of the games just cause it made the elite 4 seem hardass as they should.

How did you have trouble leveling? They give you a damn Lucky Egg. Do you just avoid battles as much as you can and not explore at all? My entire team was level 100 at the end of my last Black 2 run.

Even before you get the lucky egg its still a grind. I know i had to beat gym leaders with pokemon 2-5 levels under their pokemon just so I could go on.

The story was absolutely retarded and made zero sense until Platinum, where Cyrus explains that it purposefully made no sense so it would confuse the team and Cyrus could do whatever the fuck he wanted.

Which sort of just makes it worse because he couldn't even boast that in D/P.
Not to mention how forgettable the characters were. Aside from Cynthia, barely anyone was more than -type- gym leader. Volkner's thing was stupid and the only good thing you can say about the rest of them was that some were fappable. Even the stat trainers you partnered up with were better and those were outright awful implementations due to full retard AI.

Then they took out a bunch of features from Emerald and started the trend of removing shit from new generations. So no battle frontier until Platinum. And then adding retarded bullshit like snow and making half the game a cave.

The Pokemon designs were pretty awful and didn't really give us many good designs. B/W may have given us icecream and gear, but it also gave us shit like Escavalier, Lilligant, Scoliopede, Meinshao, and more. D/P sort of just handed us Bidoof and ran away.

Overall it was just plain not a very good generation.

I loved the map of IV. The snow and caves just, idk made it seem bigger to me in the sense of there was more to explore. Plus, some IV designs were awesome. Staraptor, Empoleon, Infernape, and Luxray just to name a few that I love. Story in D/P wasn't as good as it was in Platinum. Loved the Reverse world in Platinum.

The snow was tedious and empty while the cave would have been fine if it wasn't entirely golbats and bronzongs, making it seem as though you were making absolutely no progress, which is sort of true, since you went back into that same cave like 4 times through the main storyline.

And I will agree that there are some decent designs in Gen 4, but the majority was shit like Glameow, Bronzor, Chingling, Lumineon, mostly forgettable assholes like back in Gen 2. 60-80% of the dex being shit with 20% at best being good. Gen 2 just has nostalgia going for it.

Story in D/P wasn't as good as anything. And I'd say it only barely beats "LET'S DROWN THE EARTH" because at least this one got expanded upon.
