Does anyone actually use pikachu/raichu in battle? I mean, does he have any uses, either in-game or competitively?

I was thinking about adding and electric type to my team in platinum, and pikachu is just kind of there.

Also, how many of you prefer raichu to pikachu? I kind of always have.

Raichu is probably my favourite gen 1 pokemon. I used it in a play-through not so long back and I didn't have a problem with it, theres obviously better alternatives though.

Probably because I used joteon back in the day, but I've never battled with pikachu/raichu.

It's the only Electric type that I know that can counter it's weakness, but said move is Grass Knot, and that's not always useful. It doesn't have much move diversity, so you're not going to get much usage out of it beyond being an Electric type. I like Raichu, but there are better pokemon by a mile.

Competetively pikachu is loads better than Raichu because Light Ball doubles its attacking stats.
In-game it doesn't matter much because as long as you train the pokemon well enough it's not very hard to win.

I tend to use Pikachu in most of my runs. I generally send over a Surfing/Flying one, but it works just fine without them.

i've used both of them competitively in NU, they're fun with a subEncore lead set to fuck over hazard setters with tbolt and hp ice/nasty plot, but there's no reason to use them out of NU where there is better options. Even in NU I'd use rotom-fan or eelektross over them

In game they're alright but I prefer Jolteon. Use whatever you like, main game isn't hard, but 90 on both attack sides and pretty subpar bulk can be sort of underwhelming at times

I can't stand pikachu but raichu is pretty cool

Ive actually done pretty well competitively with Pikachu. I used to suck with him, but after I learned hes not really the kind of guy to go head on, then hes a beast. Lightball makes him more useful than Raichu (unless you give Raichu an item to help him out)
I usually use him as a sidekick in Rotations or Doubles next to a powerful sweeper. Even in that battle where you swap one Pokemon and the AI uses your Pokemon against you, my Pikachu was pretty good and nearly destroyed my entire team

Don't know about competitively but I run a Raichu in game every time I can just because I love the guy. Bred one with Nasty Plot and swept the E4 with him alone and still being slightly under leveled. There are better electric Pokemon stat wise, but he'll always be my favorite and a quick sweeper if you know how to use him.

Raichu is way better than Pikachu. I actually ran a really fun mixed SubPunch Raichu in HG/SS. This was the Battle Tower though, not comp.
