The GBA models allow for GB/GBC cartridges, but sadly no, the DS and DS Lite do not permit play of GB/GBC cartridges.

The original gameboy games don't work. Only the GBA games work I believe. Although I could be wrong.

No, there's a piece of plastic that prevents you from inserting GB/GBC games into the GBA slot.

Actually, now I'm wondering what would happen if you modified the cartridge to fit into a DS. I'm guessing it just won't detect it, but maybe not.

The thing is, the GBA had two processors in it, one for GB/GBC and one for GBA. If the DS was to be backwards compatible with GB/GBC, the system would need to have three fucking processors in it, something I doubt they would do.

I would love to play in the real console but where I live is hard as fuck to get a DS (and I haven't even see any in the biggest videogame markets here, which is weird) playing in emulator is deffinitely the best choice.

I own a 3ds and a small laptop with emulators on it.

I use emulators for extra save files and turbo grinding, and I use my ds for my main team, competitive, and to support gamefreak (and because my laptop struggles to emulate DS).

I use emulators on my phone. I can emulate all the way up to the Ps1 on my phone. I'm going through FF9 right now along with playing Pokemon games.
I've got the christmas version of Crystal on there, I always run through it once during the holidays.

Go on the play store and get retroarch. Its a good all in one emulator. It has everything from new emulators, doom, all the way to ps1 emulation. I use that along with My Boy (the free version) and GBC A.D for all my emulating needs
