I think Gen 5 was a little linear and lacking in soul. But Gen 6 looks very promising.

It's likely that you've grown up with the earlier Gens, and are just finding pokemon less interesting as you've become an adult.

This. Gen 6 being nonlinear is high on my wishlist too. It looks like it could be because of the central town, shape of the region and the pokedex being split into 3 sections.

BW and HGSS kept Nintendo from losing a nearly fifteen year long fan. And considering how many older fans jumped back and stayed in with HGSS and BW, I'd imagine I'm not even close to being the only one.
