I never got why this little guy was part Steel. I used to think his hat was made of steel but I doubt thats the case.

Any chance he'll get changed to fairy/psychic?

i completely agree, it doesnt look very steel

but since i like jirachi, im hoping it gets steel/fairy just because that would be a bitchin type.

even though netiher steel nor psychic really suit it. mono fairy is all its sprite really looks like it deserves

They could just make it put a bunch of Fairy-type moves into its movepool that would technically kind-of/sort-of make Jirachi a Fairy. It's kind of like how Charizard can learn a bunch of Dragon moves despite being Fire/Flying.

Before there was a Fairy type, Psychic was the closest thing they had to give all the little legendaries that are obviously fairies.
Cerebi is a lot more of a fairy than Jirachi is, and it's msot likely not going to be Fairy, since it's already a dual type.

That being said, I like Jirachi's Steel type. Can't really tell exactly what about it feels Steel to me, but it fits fine when I look at it. I don't really get any vibes that it's the wrong type.

I think the steel type comes from a its design about being the embodiment of a shooting star. steel typing is probably the closest typing for something based off a comet/meteorite. I'd say if it gets a fairy retyping it would get steel/fairy since fairy seems closer to something wish granting than a "psychic"

Because it is based on a metal meteor, and it's signature move is possibly based on wishing for an apocalyptic meteor strike that's why it's called "Doom Desire". Changing the psychic type to fairy seems possible as some of the cosmic like moves seems to be fairy type now.

Am I the only one who feels like Fairy/Psychic is somewhat of a redundant typing? Fairy/Ghost and Psychic/Ghost feel like that to me too.

I mean, ghosts and fairies are both spirits and they have "psychic" powers by default.

I understand there has to be such typings because of gameplay, but it just "feels" silly.

I can't see them retconning the types of any current legendaries. Just like starters, they're just way too prominent/influential/whatever. I can maybe see more minor legendaries like the lake trio being retconned to fairy, though that's still a stretch.

Probably because of the same reason as Dialga. The association with Stars being some of the densest materials to the point of black holes or whatever the fuck. Steel fits stars better than any other type (since it was already part psychic)

I will incredibly depressed if Jirachi loses its Steel typing and all defensive merit, it's a very cool Pokemon. Ideally it'd be steel/fairy, but I will be mad if it's psychic/fairy.
