I picked the water starter in every gen too OP, EXCEPT gen 4

Empoleon was just too fucking shitty looking to touch. Its just horrid to look at.

Im a big fan of Sun Wukong inspired Infernape but other than that, water types all the way.

Still not sure if i'm picking Froakie though until I see its final evolution.

I never picked the water type until gen V. The water type starters have never had bad designs imo, though. There was just usually a Fire/Grass starter that I liked better,

I like Samurott a lot though, and Froakie looks great for X/Y

Hell yeah. I've been years for this.
Blastoise will be my tank. He can take hits and dish them out. Or toxic stall with dive and protect with leftovers. He's got the defenses to do it.
Feraligatr will swords dance + aqua jet every thing. And he's got good bulk too.
Swampert is there for electric types and to stab earthquake everything.
Empoleon is there for special attacking and boatload of resistances.
Samurott is there for death fodder. Lets face it, he sucks. Anything he can do the other starters do better.
Froakie, if he is water/flying is the ultimate anti-grass starter. Of he ends up as water/fight like rumors say then it's still good. Fighting is an awesome atacking type.

Former fire user here. My first starter was Chimchar, and Infernape was fucking awesome. After playing the Gen II games I realized that I liked Feraligatr a good deal better than Typhlosion, and realized that I like the Water starters a lot more, as well as the Water type in general.
