Is it true that Ditto is a failed clone of Mew?
If you think Ditto is, please post your reasoning behind it to prove.

And if you read Masuda's answer it doesn't confirm or deny that Ditto could have come from Mew, he just says each pokemon is a unique creature, the fact that Ditto is indeed unique doesn't mean it didn't come from Mew in some way, the same way that Sharpedo is unique yet it comes from Carvannah

You know, I really fucking think that Gamefreak is coy about details like the true nature of Ditto to drive speculation and interest in the games, to make money. Also, they deliberately put legendaries that don't officially exist yet into games and probably leak the glitches used to obtain them, just to drive interest.

While in Red and Blue, it pops up in various locations, it's locations change very suddenly and drasticly for Yellow.
Where does it appear in Yellow, you ask?
Cerulean Cave, site of Mewtwo; and Pokemon Mansion, site of the cloning attempts.
Then, we have the whole Transform thing
And the coloration
And the weight.
Not saying there's a link, but it's uncanny, no?
