Riddle me this, Smogonfags

Both wobbuffet and wynatt have been Uber since in gen 3 and gen 4.

Why are they only Borderline OU in gen 5 if nothing about them has changed?

Also, what do you do if theres 2 wobbuffets against each other preventing either from switching and both are holding leftovers. Leftovers prevents either of them from dying due to struggle damage.

Please explain

also encore changed in gen v; it's a lot less potent now, wobb still sees some usage though, good players can still use him strategically, but gothitelle is superior now that it's out

It's not the fact they haven't changed, it's the fact that EVERYTHING around them has.

Weather, power creep, hazards, scald, etc.

And that last part is only true for 3rd gen, I believe.

they weren't. It's just because if two were sent in against each other and they were the lat on each side, the game couldn't end without a forfeit. This changed in Gen 4 or 5

well the idea is you lure in a sweeper you want to kill [say their salamence] by sending in a poke that mence wrecks, then you double switch out to wobbufet and then bam, it's gone. so basically you set a trap with it and utilize a double switch, so wobb is fighting a poke he can kill rather than one with toxic and taunt. the never dying thing is probably the most prevalent reason for gen 3, not sure about in gen 4 though, probably just because it could take out pokes so easily

That's exactly why they've gone down in usage.
New threats and new styles of play were popularized in Gen V, and the metagame shifted accordingly.
Wobbuffet and Wynaut, however, didn't change much at all, and battlers simply lost interest in them.

They were in the uber tier not because they're among legendaries in terms of battling capability, but because they were literally banned. Up until gen 4 or 5 they could create an unending stalemate. That's it.

Power Creep and shifting metagame.
Things that have been OU since their arrival have dropped straight to NU or worse because of new ideas being implemented in the competitive scene all the time. Look at Stealth Rocks.

The Metagame has simply shifted to the point where there are stronger and better things than Wobbuffet and Wynaut now. Guaranteed KOs aren't even a problem anymore. Especially when things can get so powerful nowadays that they can OHKO Wobbuffet itself.

Yet that doesn't apply in Gen 4, and they were in Ubers in Gen 4.

You could only use the stalemate excuse in Gen 3. But that doesn't say anything about why they were uber gen 4.

Power Creep. 1 shotting Wobb is very doable.

Shadow Tag permits other Pokemon with it to switch.

Encore nerfed.

Team Previews also hurt a lot.

Damn. Never mind, I just saw it on Bulbapedia. Three turns? Wow. Makes me wonder how many other moves will change for Gen VI. It's already being said that Vine Whip has its PP raised so I'm guessing that means the base power will drop.

You do realize it only has like, 30 base power, right? They only increased it because it was inexplicably low to begin with. And it's still too damn low, I don't know what the fuck Game Freak's problem with that move is.
