Alright /vp/, lets do this. Let's make a team that shits on the smogon meta-game. Everyone from the Showdwon Threads get in here, We need you Lolpez, you brought /vp/ together for the best Showdown threads

The last thread for the anti-OU team fizzled out, but that was because there was no direction. Lets start by shutting down rain with Gastrodon and killing dragons with Mamoswine.

Not to mention, you assume that /vp/ is any good at this at all, when they're not. There's a few good players but the majority will probably be stomped by much better players regardless of team.

I'd recommend Toxicroak, Kingdra or Celebi for an anti-rain.
Porygon 2 and ParaShuffleDnite are good walls, too.

I consider myself decent at OU (around 1700), I've been running a sand team with Magnezone, gastrodon, and Mamoswine and its beaten every cookie-cutter OU team I've come across. With collaboration I'm sure it could be modified and perfected.

I'm around 1700, just from today, using Kyurem-B, Dragonite, Garchomp, Moximence, Haxorous, and Druddigon, all scarved, all spamming outrage. 1700 is easy.

didn't run into one. the only team that walled me was a baton passing team, that held off until I was confused then bulked the fuck up. there was a team with metagross and ferro, but ferro didn't have leftovers/rockyhelmet so they ended up losing, I don't know how they managed to lose.

I've found that the best counter to OU is to be completely unexpected while still good.
My current go-to team is Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Shaymin-Shit Form, Victini, and Garchomp.
They're amazingly versatile, have great coverage, and can always be backed up by Garchy.
Whenever I enter battles with them, the opponents start to laugh me off before I destroy their generic OU.

We're doing this all wrong. We can't just throw 6 pokemon that are decent checks to popular playstyles on a team.

We should be proactive, not reactive. Figure out an obscure playstyle or pokemon and build or team around that, rather than defeating whats popular.

Alright, if you guys want a non OU poke that is a rape train in OU, try Sharpedo under rain. Max attack max speed, adament nature with life orb, with the move set Waterfall, Crunch, Earthquake, and Protect.

160 power Waterfalls with over 500 attack is devastating. Also fun to do against sun teams. Send Sharpedo out against Ninetales, and kill it with earthquake. For some reason, nobody knows that Sharpedo knows Earthquake.

Probably because most people use Ice beam on their Sharpedo (or maybe that's just me)

Also STAB + rain makes waterfall 180 power not 160.

The main problem with sharpedo is getting fucked in the ass by breloom, being reliant on protect (I actually run 4 attacks because fuck protect) and a general lack of power because he has no boosting moves.

Nope. That's one of the main reasons why Kingdra actually has some use. Outside of rain, though, DD/Waterfall/Outrage/Disable makes a good set.

Sun Stall, based on what Ive seen on the smogon forums isnt really "sun" stall, its more "regular stall plus Ninetales because it makes rain and sand teams sad".

One thing I did notice though is that Sun nerfing water moves lets sableye beat all OU spinners 1v1, ensuring your hazards

Also, this is futile imo. You can't beat the "smogon meta" because the smogon meta for Gen 5 is completely based off different archtypes "Sun Stall, Hyper Offense, Rain Stall, Rain Offense, ect". You can only really counter a certain part of the meta by running a specific archtype, only to get shit on by the other half. This is what it's like to play in a team match-up based metagame.

I do enjoy SubSeed Venusaur, though that's more a quickstall offensively oriented annoyer rather than sun stall.

That player was sub 1000 and he could've/should've easily set up on your Celebi and swept you but he didn't.

What if we just focused on finding ways to use low tier pokemon in OU? After all the tiers are based strictly on usage, meaning niche but adequate pokemon litter the lower tiers if you're willing to build a team that calls for them.

Porygon2's Trace helps outstall Rain Dishers. Swift Swim to sweep. Magic Bounce for ROCKS. Zapdos destroys Scizor and takes out many Fighting types

Why are you using night daze to begin with? It's 5 extra base power in exchange for imperfect accuracy. Just use dark pulse so you don't hate yourself when a miss costs you Zoro

Remember you can always use both. Gengar is a better defensive disguise, no one is going to mach punch gengar. While Heracross is a great partner with or without a disguise.

If you do the calculations, it's really not worth it. The chance of getting the accuracy drop and then causing a move to miss is less than the chance of flinch with Dark Pulse. Plus you don't have to worry about it missing.

I generally use a guts heracross, as moxie has become prevalent enough that people do burn Heracross now. I never use a status orb though. Fucks up the disguise. Guts is better on wAllbreaker sets anyway. Zoroark is the sweeper, heracross is there to open the way for the sweep.

I always make sure to bring a pokemon with stealth rock and spikes because of how many switches it creates.

Not even close. Smogon still says Toxicroak should be used only in rain, and that Trick Room doesn't work, both laughable claims that should be immediately dismissed by any non-crappy player.

Gastrodon is good for fucking up rain teams but specially defensive cradily is just as good, but it also helps against powerful special attackers in sand. Only downside is how many weaknesses it has and ice beam really hurts it a lot.

Also, SubPunch Poliwrath with Water Absorb really punches dents in rain teams.

While most everything has probably already been used by someone at some point in time it still isn't impossible to be "anti-meta". You probably can't invent anything completely new at this point, but it's still possible to do well with unpopular Pokemon, cores or even team archetypes.

Don't. Gastrodon did work as a rain counter at some point in time, but it tends to become a liability against new breeds of rain teams (Keldeo-centric, with Landorus/Keldeo-core counters or both). Basically it just doesn't work anymore.

1850 Glicko2 (one standard deviation above average) is generally considered pretty good. 1900 (pre reset) on any stable ladder is nice, don't sell yourself short.

With that said, you guys definitely need to limit the number of contributors. With too many or bad (~ <1800) collaborators this project is bound to fail.

Also, yes, Mamoswine is a great anti-meta Pokemon. Has been for a long time.

Not quite. Toxicroak 6-0s most rain teams, but still works well againt the other teams. Think about it: people use Water Absorbers/Gastrodon outside of rain teams, so just imagine that Toxicroak has Water Absorb - which is what his ability is useful for - being immune to water - not so much the recovery in rain.

In the last thread, people agreed to start with Toxicroak because it is the best anti-rain Pokemon. The thread unfortunately died, though.

If you guys want something REALLY anti-metagame, try a Trick Room team. When you actually build a good one, you will almost instantly see that all the smogon-repeated claims about them (destroyed by Tyranitar, too little TR turns to sweep, only single TR pokemon, not whole teams, work) are 100% wrong. I got to 1950 with a TR team, literally trouncing several 2100+ guys with it. I posted the replays a few weeks ago but no one cared about them. I'd be interested to see what TR teams you guys come up with.

Tried that too, and it worked extremely well sometimes, and the other times it just failed. I'm pretty sure I didn't make it correctly though, because I didn't spend too much time on it. Here is a gem: Sableye has a PRIORITY GRAVITY. I think the correct way to make such a team would be to just have 2 or 3 EQ spammers, including at least one scarfed one, and other pokemon to set up gravity and spikes for them, and sableye for spinblocking.
