Recently in my platinum and emerald, I've built a team of 6, where each pokemon is a counter to one of the champions.
For example
Blissey vs Spiritomb
Glalie vs Garchomp
Gastrodon vs Lucario
Tangrowth vs Milotic
Staraptor vs Roserade
Gengar vs Togekiss (Thunderbolt)
I set them up in a series of 1v1's based on who the champion currently has out. If my pokemon wins, I am no longer allowed to use that mon. If they lose, then I must try to avenge it.
While it makes it easier, it gives me some wierd sentimental value, as if I've trained perfectly to overcome every challenge. It's a good feeling, and it's a lot of fun.
