Smogonfag here. I come in peace!

I would like to ask as to why some of you hate smogon so much. It seems that you think we just use the "strongest OU pokemon" and deride everyone else for using weak pokemon, when that's not the case at all! It just stems from a misunderstanding of the tier system.

What the tier system actually does is allow you to use your favourite pokemon in an environment where it doesn't get completely raped. Your wigglytuff isn't going to do SHIT against a garchomp now, is it? THAT'S why it's relegated to UU, where it actually stands a chance of winning it's fights.

That's not to say that you can't make a team of your favourite pokemon just because they're in different tiers though! You're just going to have to deal with teams composed of pokemon the tier your strongest pokemon is of, so it's going to be an uphill battle.
