It's not even the Pokemon that I lament not getting...I'm really fucking upset over the fact I can't explore the extended Seabreak Path or Flower Paradise, or Newmoon Island, etc..

I didn't play G/S/C for some reason and went straight from R/B/Y to R/S/E. So many pokemon I thought were gen 3 actually turned out to be gen 2 pokemon, like Skarmory, Girafarig, Xatu, etc.

I didn't realise this til I played HG but I still associate them with gen 3 thanks to my experience.

I had no clue that Dunsparce was a Normal type until three days ago. I have always just assumed that it was a Ground type.

Sort of slightly related. Some of the stats on a lot of Gen 1 Pokemon were really just sort of what the fuck.
I thought a lot of them were generally literally average all the way around with mostly around 80 stats in everything.

But then looking at them actually, it's so odd.
Like, look at Onix.

I still confuse Gen 2 Pokemon with Gen 3, and I played Gen 2 when they came out. Gen 2 is just...sort of forgettable. The popular ones stand out (Tyranitar, Houndour, espeon, Umbreon..) But you could tell me Snubbul, Hoppip, l or corsola were Gen 3 debuts and I'd believe you.

Why? Slowking's high Sp. Def helps sponge up some of its Ghost, Electric and Grass weaknesses, which are heavily special attack oriented

Always thought that Marill was a Gen 1 Pokemon. Mostly because of the water type Pikachu rumor that I always heard about as a kid, and the anime. The photographer character had a Marill, and Marill was also in the opening short for the movie, wasn't it? This was all around a time where I wasnt aware of any other Pokemon game than Red. Thinking Marill was gen 1 just kind of carried on with me.

Even without that, neutral physical dragon attacks are taken by Slowbro better than Slowking.

I've always thought of Flying as a characteristic, not exactly a type like the others.

Eg, pidgey and tailow are by all means a normal pokemon, but they can fly too. Articuno, salamence, tropics are all their respective primary types, but can fly too.

Tornadus is an exception because it's literally the embodiment of wind as flying (Have a shit memory and am on my phone so can't be fucked verifying this, but that's how I see it).

Also forgot to add what another anon once theorised here, but the other reason Flying is never it's own type (exception of Tornadus) is because types are based on the state a pokemon is. Pidgey isn't always in the air flying, so it can't be a pure flying type, while Tornadus is. Noivern seems to be heavily based on using sounds, which can be linked to Flying via the fact that they both travel through the air, so it's primary state is also Flying.

Badly paraphrasing what they said, it made sense to me though.
