I'll play platinum for the first time. I've already played every other pokemons game beside d/p/pt.

The think is I don't want to worry about have to look for the perfect HMslaves so ll just ask: What pokemons give the best coverage of HM?

I'm thinking of Tropious as a starter so HM slave him and then play without starter.

Anything that's Flying type can learn Fly
Just get a Staraptor, Honchkrow, or Gliscor

there's 8 HMs, bibarel learns 6 of them

starly with fly isn't bad, you just waste a turn as opposed to use something like brave bird, and you might not always want to use it

i used this bad motherfucker
even with nothing but HMs on him he still was usable in battle when i needed him, and i wouldnt have beat the E4 without him. only learns 4 HMs but if you want something that can still hold its own he's your best bet

Use a Tropius mate. Learns a bunch of the important HM, namely Fly, and you can teach the surf and waterfall to your water type if you picked empoleon starter, if you picked something else the physical/special coverage works for a lot of water types in platinum. Tropius> Bibarel for HM slave, you are wrong if you think otherwise.

If you give Bibarel Surf, Strength, Rock Smash, and Rock Climb, then he can singlehandedly climb Mt. Coronet.

Otherwise, I once got all HMs onto two pokes using Golduck and Skarmory

Even without Fly, Bibarel is the best HM Slave ever. If you're really not up for just slapping Fly onto your Flying-Type, then use Tropius. He can't learn Surf or Waterfall, both which would work better on your Physical or Special Water-Type, respectively
