This has been argued since the day this episode aired, but what do you guys think, was this a dragonite, and how did it get so big? I also know there are a shit ton of theories like it could be lost from giovanni's pokeland etc

Reptiles(which dragons are commonly lumped into) don't stop growing, it could just an exceptionally old Dragonite.

Hes just fucking huge.

I mean, they did have a gigantic Tentcrule in one episode. It just left at the end. Somewhere there is a monster the size of Tokyo just floating at sea

Sounds about right. The anime tends to oversize pokemon a lot but this one is just mysterious, weird and.. creepy. I think it might have been intended for something more, but they never got around to doing it.

Think about the logic in this for a second..
Normal dragonite is 7'.
This dragonite is as big as a large building.
It'd have to be 100+.

Wartortle lives to be 1000+, so I could see that.

Especially considering we've only seen Poke-Japan and part of Poke-America.

Not sure OP, but It most likely is just the oldest living dragonite who live deep in a underwater cave. I like how they gave him a whale cry in the episode. The song that plays when they describe the legend is mystical

Creators, writers, and animators always seem to very on certain Pokemon sizes. Nothing is set in stone and this episode probably aired when the idea of Dragonite was to have it a giant dragon.
