layer one; lot's of dead ends, drops all come down clean. no issues which can't be resolved by changing catch areas or hiding trainers.
layer two: also good, like the diversity of the path. is there a way to bypass the broken holes? otherwise upper-right loot is nearly un-obtainable. outer-ring drop panels land on walls sometimes. pretty sure we can just budge play position over in code.
layer3; drops block every path. must be a way to span gap. outer ring drop piece purely for looks?? no way to get to such regions
layer 4 and 5. great pathing. not sure once again on crossing holes and outer-area falls unreachable and land on walls at times like some others.

If we made the whole thing populated with high level pokes and DIFFICULT trainers instead of just the encounter areas this would be a perfect victory road. We can tie it in better with the plot if it involves the pixies/quetzal but I don't really think its needed. Ducherado is standing on top/top level and battles you, you win and carry on to the Pokemon league. This would require us to create some sort of puzzle that's more than just a maze. I suggest switches that either turn the maze to alter where you drop down or switches that add/ remove walls. Either way, there needs to be multiple parts on each level you can't reach when you first get there.
I wish I wasn't busy so I could illustrate this more clearly

1b) the sparseness was origionally intentional, to just have a maze for the sake of a maze... But I don't see any reason why we can't have some tomb robber NPC's, so long as we make sure they can't move and block paths.
2) the drop tiles only activate if you backtrack and walk over them more than once. If you keep moving forward, and with any luck avoid dead ends, you'll get to through without ever falling.
3) I made the paths using layers in a paint program, so I'm pretty sure none of the break tiles cause the player to fall on a wall... FYI the ladders in the centers of the mazes line up, not the staircases at the exits... I know that causes problems for level 3 since it has no ladders... I'll implement a centering marker later so the mappers will know how everything lines up.

HEY ALL! So I was going through the trainer classes a while ago and noticed we have a jolly old Relic hunter and two POed Treasure hunters. Now these guys presumably play roles so similar as to make each other unnecessary. But Brain Blast, what if we make the Treasure Hunters stand ins or even prototypes for the Evil Team grunts? We've already established there is going to be a gold incentive and an archeology theme. They even look a bit like they have the same stylist. Those could be the uniforms.

I was thinking of a gym team for Foster a while back (before he was confirmed as the first gym leader - he is confirmed as the first gym leader now, yes?), and I've been reworking it now given the stats/abilities/movesets on the wiki (which I don't think are final but are something to work off of right now). I want to give him icetope for type variety/snow warning, but icetope isn't available at that point in the game. Do you think I should stick to ice-types available at that point, or include icetope for a better challenge? I'm assuming Snome would be his signature, and then add in Pengliff and Cubzero (one of which would be replaced for Icetope) Also do we have a confirmed list of TMs? So far I have hail on everything because I was using gen4 TM's (which would also eliminate the need for Icetope) and bliz/ice beam are too powerful at this point, but if we have different moves I could use something else maybe.

(1/2) First sets made! Only 3 of these will be put together for a team, but we had a lot of options so I thought input would be good. The sets are all frost breath (TM)+3 level-up moves they can get up to level 14 (which is the highest level of the gym). They can be any level between 12-14, with the exception of Cubzero who has to be at least level 13 for Quick Attack (because >giving pokemon illegal moves >making GF mistakes). I'm going to give my input on each set in my next post because I'm over the character limit.

However, this game is meant to be more challenging, so it's a possibility. Bite and Tackle for type coverage.
Howl boosts your attack for Bite/Tackle. Intimidate can be used to cripple physical threats like Fawning and Iguadium. Ice Body benefits from hail is Icetope is used, but can also be used just so Wendingo doesn't have Intimidate if Intimidate would make it too difficult. Due to similarities with Cubzero, only one of these two should be used. I believe Wendingo isn't available until later in the game, so some people may not like Wendingo being used this early as it is not available until later. Could be wrong on that however.
Wendingo and Icetope are the only ones with stats that are really noticable (and Icetope's 80 base sp.def isn't a huge deal), everyone else is pretty even.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm not going to directly reply to everything because a lot of discussion happened about it. So, here's what I've come up with:

I also added levels to the graphic. >corrected Brave to say -spe instead of -def. I had the nature right, just slipped on the stats. thank you correction anon. >BW2 challenge mode had all pokemon on the team use the signature TM. Since those are the most recent games released I decided it would be good to follow that (plus, with reusable TMs why wouldn't the gym leader put his/her signature TM on everything?). If you guys don't like this it's an easy fix, just need to switch out frost breath for icy wind on pengliff/wendingo >pengliff having peck as because my choice was between peck, pound, and icy wind. frost breath will always do more damage to foliat, peck is just for iguadium/finishing weakened ice resisters to not risk the double slap miss. would icy wind be a better choice for the speed drop? I was doing this months ago before the TMs and gym leaders were confirmed, but it wasn't the right time so I was told to save it until later. With the maps being on their way and Foster confirmed for the first leader I figured it was time to start up again. I'm sorry if there was confusion, I'm not just some new guy trying to take over the project, I'm just trying to get something settled for the demo comments/suggestions?

Some suggested improvements to the map, right is mine. Coast town should lead into the ocean path, a dead end beach is beyond stupid. Also, I don't know what "Dessert Pass" is, but there should be a (relatively) simple pathway to the next town without traversing the desert if we want to keep it as the ubermensch and unescapable badlands. Also, pretty sure there is no route 23 on the current map, but there is a route 24. spooky.

There's a line between "convenience" and "laziness." Where do we cross the line? I think tools would be cool and original, deletable HMs would be nice, but the whole concept of auto HMs sort of crosses the line.

I remember it though; I voted A and then B, so I'm not just a sore loser. First option is implying that you can use an overworld move JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE IT, and the second is suggesting a) Its impossible to get stuck by removing HMs; b) HMs aren't Pokemon's "broken bridge", and a design element common to RPGs to impede advancement of the player, in order to prevent the story being broken, and c) that tools exist already and will in fact be used.
Worse, the first one implies that EVERY SINGLE HM WILL GET TOOLS when its only like, 3. Flash, Rock Climb, and Cut.

I already know I wont like their result, because while they want to make the hardest, edgiest Pokemon game ever, they dont want roadblocks to hinder their smogoning. Really, making every HM based move good was a far better option than tools but its also a forgotten one

Something like Flash working on all opponents in multis, and lowering acc by 2 stages in single, Cut being grass-typed and/or having a special effect of ANY sort, Rock Smash being stronger than 40 fucking BP and increasing defense drops, etc.
I, personally, am okay with HMs being borderline Disc One Nukes, if they're Disc three junk. I.e., Cut doesnt have to be better than Solar beam, it just has to be better than vine whip, even if doing so makes it overpowered for the first few gyms

I would suggest cut being grass or steel type, and having a 20% chance of hitting critical.
Flash should lower the foes accuracy 1 stage, while raising the players accuracy 1 stage. (since the whole point of it is to help you see better)
Strength should be made Fight type
Rock smash should have a 100% chance of lowering the foes def. (sort of like a reverse rollout)
