Generally speaking, is there a best type? I think a lot of people believe Dragon are, but they are simply overrated. Not to mention Fairy types will nerf them a bit. Personally, I think Electric is one of the strongest out there due to only a single weakness and great coverage.
What does /vp/ think?

Offensively speaking:

Rock, Fighting, Ice, and Dragon are all God Tier.

Water, Electric, Ghost, and Ground are High Tier.

Steel and Poison are shit tier.

Everything else is okay.

Decent tier:
Dragon, ghost, dark, water, fire, flying, and poison.
Meh tier:

I've played monotypes competitively and this is what I believe based on what I battled.
Fighting, psychic, and bug types all have great coverage and a variety of powerful pokemon. Steel types are incredibly bulky and easy to win with.
Dragons are fast and have high attacking stats, ghosts are bulky (with a few exceptions) and powerful same goes for water and poison types, fire and flying type teams have fast sweepers and a few bulky pokes, and dark types vary.
Rock and ground types are great because of their sandstorm resistance, but can easily be crushed, normal types don't really have much going for them in terms of STAB moves, and ice types are frail.
Grass and electric types are just frail as fuck.

Emboar is actually capable of playing OU with Trick Room support.

Charizard is decent in UU at best, assuming you have some hardcore strategy based around him. I'll be fair and give you Magcargo.

Except Fighting is utter shit in mono-type because your only hope to get past Hurricanes and Brave Birds is Cobalion. Terrakion can't take more than one hit before dying, so I'm not even mentioning it.

If anything, mono water, steel, and poison are the only god-tier ones.

Sure, rock types can be great, but a fighting type team can easily take them down quickly and efficiently. Most dragon type teams rely on sweepers, and can easily be taken down by anything fast or bulky with an ice-type move.
Electric types are easily taken down by almost anything due to their shitty defenses.

Keep in mind that hurricane doesn't have 100% accuracy and that many fighting types (namely terrakion and machamp) are incredibly bulky.
Also, stealth rock does indeed cripple bug types significantly, but it's fairly easy to set up bug types as long as you're good. One swords dance with scizor or one quiver dance with volcarona and you can easily sweep an unprepared team. Two swords dances with scizor and nothing will touch you.

Even if it's immune, dragons as a general rule have too many coverage moves for any fairy to take advantage of one turn of setup off of a dragon fail. From what we've seen so far, fairies are frail defensively, and unless they get a crazy good priority move, their impact will be negligible.

As of this gen the correct answer is Steel.
Unlike any other type, it is REQUIRED to have one in any good team. It's the bane of stall, the only type that can take on Dragon assaults head on and has a metric asston of resistances. Resistance to the most common move in the game (Sneaky Pebbles) and immunity to sandstorm. It's really in it's own tier with how useful it is.

But then you could go back offensively and say that ice is also a must-have in any good team. Only way to truly stop Dragons, as they also can carry Earthquake which fucks over Steel.

Steel and dragon have this gross shared thrown, dragons are strong as fuck, so you have to have steels.

While steel would still be great on its own merits its necessary because of dragons. You give another pokemon a dragon resist and steels are still good, but not a requirement for a team
