Will I be able to transfer pokemon from gen 4 to gen 6, or will I have to have a gen 5 game/use an action replay to re-create them?

It'll probably be from gen 5 only if previous transferring is any indication

If you know someone trustworthy maybe you can give them your gen 4 Pokemon so they can transfer it to their gen 5 to their gen 6 and then trade it back to you.

Just get a copy of BW/BW2 now that you can find them cheap

i've found them in flea markets for 15~USD, no box though

this works up to BW2 but no guarantee it will work with XY

That is just what i told you

You have the data in your computer(the .pkm file) and transfer it to your game card through pokeGTS

you don't need hardware other than a PC, a DS/DSi and a Pokemon cartridge

Why not just use Pokecheck to clone G4 mons and download in G5? I was under the impression that that was more straightforward than Pokegen.
