In competitive play against other people, the support set is probably better in the long run, unless you play in the lowest tiers where the Calm Mind shines.
If battle tower, both work nicely. It's almost always easier to run offensive sets in the Battle Tower/Frontier/PWT. This is assuming Gen 4+, where Shadow Ball is a Special move.
