i don't hate starters, but i take points off if there's more than 3-4 starters, get some variety.
i do ALWAYS take points off for pokemon i don't like, like shitfernape or gardevoir, and sometimes a few points off for too many pokemon that are just way overused, even if they're cool, like lucario, aggron, tyranitar, dragonite, heracross or nidoking (to be fair steel ground poison and rock have a pretty shallow bench). if there's just 1 or 2 of those i don't bat an eye, but too many off that list, especially + starters or evees, just wreaks of unoriginality.
not trying to be edgy, there are plenty very popular pokemon i don't deduct for, either because i think they're universally, undeniably badass or i think there's not many better choices in that type. examples would be scizor, gengar line, mamoswine line, scrafty, sneasel/weavile, gliscor/gligar, or breloom
anyway these are COMPLETELY subjective, so who cares
