>>12813709>That's the standard defense you guys use, yet it doesn't work, because I'd have no one to play with if I followed it.You're fucking retarded, holy shit. This "having nobody to play with" problem is EXACTLY the reason why Smogon needs to exist in the first place.
If everyone was like you and just went running around with their own personal ruleset, then NOBODY would EVER have anyone else to play with. Everyone would have their own lists of whats allowed and what isn't, and it would be a fucking nightmare trying to find someone with a ruleset similar to yours. You'd spend more time looking for compatible battle partners than you would spend actually battling.
Smogon's rules serve as a generally agreed-upon baseline for online battling. And that's a GOOD THING, because it means you can be reasonably sure that anyone you meet will be following similar guidelines to you. It means you can spend hours breeding and training your team with the confidence that you will be able to use these Pokemon and moves in 99% of the battles you engage in, and that the opponent isn't going to pull out any disagreeable bullshit.
Sure, sometimes you might disagree with certain aspects of Smogon's rules - everyone, even Smogonites, have quibbles about the current state of the metagame - but its worthwhile making these concessions because overall, having a unified ruleset that is applied and accepted almost everywhere is far more conducive to making battles happen than what you propose: Everyone running around with their own personal rules and either a) having nobody to play against or b) forcing other people to play by their rules (exactly the thing you criticise Smogon of in the first place).
