am i the only one that simply CANNOT have a female pokemon when a male version exists?
the pokemon i have are probably over 90% male and i wouldn't have it any other way

Almost the same thing OP. I just see Pokemon games as a child-game where i have friends of my sex.
Of course when pokemon looks like a female or have some details of "unisex" (Gardevoir, Vespiqueen or Blissey for example) i prefer females, but when it's something like Tyranitar or Honchcrow or Gengar of course i would like to have a badass looking male.

You are probably still struggling with playground homophobia, not wanting female characters because of percieved "gayness". It's normal if you are 13 or under i guess.

Some pokémon are much cooler to have as female. Most bug and mole pokemon because of the broodmother thing, and arachnids because they tend to be larger and more powerful than the males in the wild. The same goes for snakes. It's also cool to have female pachyderms because they are commonly matriarchal, so a "fat mama" Aggron, Donphan, Rhyperior, Hippowdon (dat color) or Mamoswine is an easy choice.

Some pokémon simply are feminine more to me, like Whimsicott, Maractus, Dewgong...

Finally, there are some cool physical gender differences. Hippowdon, Abmasnow, Cacturne are examples of pokemon that look better female.

So yeah, why would you travel the world with a gay-ass sausage party? If I was your male pokemon I'd be pissed because no lady company, and if i was your rival I'd accuse you of loving pokeschlong.

A slightly different method for me - some pokemon look more feminine, or more masculine, and I like to have that pokemon in the gender it looks like.

For example, Chikorita looks female, and I always had a female one when I used it as a starter. Vaporeon always looked female, so I always had a female Vaporeon. Machoke looks male, so I always had a male Machoke.

Nuzlocke games have partially cured me of this though.

I pick my pokes gender based on their species or name. If I've got a Volcarona it's gotta be a female and I'll name it Columbia. If I've got a Pidgey I want to name Tybalt, he's gonna be male. So, I usually just try to create a name and character that fits the pokemon.

If I know Ditto are rare or unavailable until post game, I prefer females. If Ditto aren't an option, I don't give a fuck one way or the other. Of all the pokes in my two frequently used PC boxes, I can only say with certainty that my shiny Ninetales is female, because it's my favorite pokemon. Other than that I have no clue.
