Dear /vp/
I'll start by saying I always loved the addition of abilities in the pokemon games. I love the idea that pokemon have natural passive abilities which are theirs regardless of what moves you give them(a bit like the typing of a pokemon). I also liked it because the concept behind it, is vastly superior to the concept of hold items(in the middle of battle a pokemon eats out of a trashcan to heal himself, wut?). Personally hold items ruin the individualism in pokemon but that's not the point I'm trying to make.
What I'm trying to say is that each pokemon evolution line should get an unique ability related to their pokedex entry, as balancing tool or to give them a niche. This will be called the pokemon's natural ability. Aside from that the pokemon can choose from 3 other secondary abilities which can be changed ingame by a npc to help the pokemon in its role or to surprise the enemy.
For example: Jumpluff
Jumpluff is based on the pollen of plants so it's natural ability can be called: Pollen Which gives all of the "powder attacks" (stun spore, poison powder and sleep powder) an increased accuracy of 15 %.
Every hoppip, skiploom of jumpluff has this ability but it only unlocks if you have high friendship with said pokemon.
Aside from the natural ability it has three other abilities you can use from based on its typing and other things.
For example:
Jumpluff can choose between sap sipper, chlorophyll(because of the grass typing) and cute charm(because it looks cute)
Now these secondary abilities don't have to be unique je can make it so that every electric type can choose for static as a secondary ability.
So /vp/ what do you think will this help create more viable pokemon? and what natural abilites do you want to see?
