I'm also hoping he's Water/Flying to make an all water starters team viable. Swampert can handle the Electric types but none of them can handle grass types since they're usually faster. A Water/Flying would be a nice counter to Grass types.

Empoleon can handle any special grass starter with his huge special defense stat and neutral typing. He does struggle with Torterra, though.

But Grass types like Venusaur and Torterra will ko him with Earthquake. Venusaur is faster than all the water starters and specially bulky enough to take an ice beam. Torterra gets stab on EQ so Empoleon is pretty much dead. A Water/Flying would take neutral from Grass and be immune to EQ so I'm hoping it is Water/Flying.

Dark/fighting/psychic is not a triangle, since dark has a psychic immunity. For it to be a true triangle like water/fire/grass, it is only allowed to resist the move, not be immune to it.

Grass/Steel - Think offensive/fast Ferro with a Knight of the round table design. You know the nut on chespins head is going to turn into some kind of helmet.
Fire/Psychic - Think Okami
Water/Electric - All that shit around Froakie's neck looks like clouds. Thunderclouds.

Make it happen gamefreak. I'm used to being disappointed with the final starters though. I loved loads of gen 5 designs but the starters and final evos were retarded apart from samurott which had shit stats...

I looked at it as each one having two weakness to the other. That is, both of each starters STABs totally fucks the starter it counters. You pick Froakie, Chespin fucks you with both grass and fighting stab moves. Which I think is just as bad as each weakness being nullified by

Froakie looks like he'll most likely be ninja based, but that doesn't mean he'll get a fighting subtype. Samurott was a samurai and managed to stay monotype. Still if I had to choose fighting seems the most likely.

Fennekin I would guess psychic but they could throw out a wild card and make him fairy or something.

Chespin I just don't know, I know the dark rumor is going around but I just can't see a starter gaining dark typing. Who knows though
