Gen 4, it was the first region I didn't just use my starter for everything. The region was diverse, natural, and quaint. It also had its Pokemon teased before the game even released, luring me in before it even existed. THe underground and GTS were enjoyable and I even attempted to get a 5-Star card. I clocked roughly 600 hours on my Diamond version and barely hit 100 on the ones before it.

My first game was yellow, but nothing really clicked until I got Crystal. Specially because it has my broest of bros, Heracross.

Gen 2.

During high school I was accused of being a sociopath who wanted to shoot up the school by a click of popular kids.

Their parents were concerned, and threatened to sue the school if I wasn't expelled. Despite no evidence of any threats ever coming to light, and psychological examination showing that I was stable albeit lonely, I was kicked out of school.

Gen 2 was the only thing that kept me from killing myself.

The Hoenn generation. Everything was new, fresh, and "Advance"d.
I really like the fact that some of my favorite Generation 1 mons were unobtainable. It sounds weird, but it further made Hoenn feel like a far off land.

Gen 1 - The start of it all, lots of nostalgia.
Gen 2 - More nostalgia, better games than Gen 1
Gen 3 - Spent more hours on an Emerald file than any other Pokemon game.
Gen 4 - When i started getting into the... "darker" side of the Pokemon fandom
Gen 5 - Gave us the best games since Gen 2.

It's hard to pick, honestly. Probably not gen 4 though. Diamond and Pearl were pretty weak. I never played Platinum.

Gen III, especially FireRed. It was the first and only time I ever actually cared about completing the Pokedex, so I poured hours into it. Even bought a GameCube+Colosseum and a second GBA just so I could trade.

Maybe Gen 2. I played Gen 1, but Johto was the first game which I fished with no cheats- my Pokemon were powerful through hard work and not through exploiting rare candy glitches, plus I followed the hype leading up to those games and more of the Pokemon were bros for me than Gen 1. I was so sad when I lost my data.

I know now that there are problems with it (lack of new pokemon being the main one) but it has always felt like the most natural progression between gens.

I remember back in middle school this fat japanese kid named Jonothan (god fuck that guy) had all of these "new japanese pokemon cards". The first gen 2 pokemon I ever saw was Hoppip. As soon as I saw it something sparked in my head and my fascination with all things Johto began.

I just started being sickenly nice and social to everyone to avoid it, on recommendation of a teacher. Wish I did shoot their asses though, we don't really need more potheads in the world.

Also, Silver was my first as I was too mexipoor to even buy a Gameboy.

Honesty, the simplicity of it. And it didn't do it great, but the return to Kanto was a big surprise for me even if it was empty. It really felt like it had been 3 years later in the game.

No over-designed/over-colored pokemon.

And it was the last time that "catching them all" actually felt do-able

Gen 2's designs were kinda weird. Very muted color palette, but a lot of the Pokemon had, like, spheres attached to them, or stripes in weird places, or random triangular spots. Gave them kind of a mystical feel. I liked it a lot; definitely my favorite gen as far as Pokemon design goes.

Not sure why, because I'd played I and II so it wasn't my first game. There was just something about it that felt so fresh and new and beautiful. I think it partially has to do with the fact that I hadn't seen any of the new Pokemon before I played it.

The order in which i played (keep in mind i've played most dual versions of the games, and ive played the games multiple times): Silver, Blue, Ruby, Yellow, Crystal, Leaf Green, Emerald, Pearl, Soul Silver, Platinum (never beat it), White, White 2 (playing).

My top 3 so far were Emerald, Yellow, and Soul Silver.
If I had to pick however, it would be Emerald as it felt likeit had the most diverse region, best pacing, and coolest designs (except i miss the old art style).
Gen 4's my least favorite tbh, but i still enjoyed it. Probably because of all the shit legendarys (5's are bad too) and the slow ass gameplay.

But I don't like the overall feel of the pokémon, they look like fakemon, as if they were drawn by kids and later put in the game.

In Russia we only had the anime, which I loved and even had a self-made Pokedex with descriptions and sketches I filled after watching an episode. So yeah, the fact that I could now train my own Pokemon made me really giddy, I couldn't wait until it came out. My parents wouldn't buy me a GBA though, so when it got released I would go a shop that had the game for playing and stay there for hours. I think the longest I've played was until the third badge... Then I had to leave because the shop was closing.

Because it was the gen 90% of all the other kids that also got into pokemon via gen I pretty much abandoned pokemon because it wasn't cool anymore (50% of said people then come back on the 4th gen train because muh nostalgia)

So during gen III my love of pokemon was still at its peak, but I didn't have anyone in real life to share my love with anymore. Thus began my great internet life.
