Think about what most trainers in the games use.

Other Pokemon, I keep unevolved because I prefer certain designs. The way I figure, it doesn't matter whether a Pokemon's fully evolved in the main story or not anyway. You can beat the entire Elite Four with a fucking Pikachu.

I always prefered to not use pokemon I won't want to fully evolve, but now with eviolite, I started doing that with a few. First one was a Mantyke.

I started playing a randomized rom for the first time recently, a White 2 rom. They gave me a Vanillite for a starter. She's so cute, op, so very cute... now that it's finally time, I don't her to evolve yet... (though I honestly have nothing against her evolutions)

Granted, some of them were two or 3 parters that all happened in one day. So let's scale it down to about 700 days total.

In my nuzlocke run in B2, I wanted to keep my Dewott from evolving because, in my head, he fit the Surfer look better than Samurott and he had just learned Surf right before he was gonna evolve.

But a few close calls later and I caved because I value keeping it alive more than its looks.

I've completed games with basic-stage Pokemon so many times (since gen 2, long before eviolite was a thing) that I think if I started playing with fully evolved Pokemon the game would seem way too easy. Main game's easy as it is.

I waited to evolve my Mime Jr. into a Mr. Mime until I defeated Ho-Oh.

I really loved my Mime Jr. but I wasn't crazy about Mr. Mime, so I wanted to hold off and keep it little for a while longer. But once it defeated Ho-Oh, it had proved itself and was ready to grow up.

I once also tried keeping my Pidgey and Zubat in their first stages during a Fire Red run through the whole game. As it turns out its actually impossible to beat the Elite Four with unevolved Pokemon even if they're overleveled. Didn't work out in my favor.

90% of all the pokemon may as well not have preevolutions as far as I'm concerned. Exceptions are really fabulous designs, rare instances when prevos are decent, and as a requirement to get certain moves.
