He's my favorite of the gen 5 starters, but personally gen 5 is my least favorite batch of starters so take that with a grain of salt. I think the bipedal sword gimmick comes off as awkward, but since he stays on all four in his sprites I'll pretend it doesn't happen.

Yeah same here, Samurott is my fav out of the gen 5 starters but really the gen 5 starters are just not my cup of tea. For the previous generations I always liked at least 2 of the final form evolutions of the starters, maybe even all of them -- whether it'd be because of usability in battle or just the design. But the gen 5 starters are just shit in battle and the design leaves much to be desired. Really hoping gen 6 will be better.

Appearance-wise: It looks like those inflatable animal things kids use at the pool . I can't even fathom how it moves around on those thick, awkwardly angled flipper/legs/arms.

Ingame: Pretty unremarkable. It's only saving grace is being the only Unova starter that's is not outclassed 3 hours into the game, and even then I think Emboar is a more solid starter overall.

Competitively: Worthless outside of NU. Unlike Serperior and Emboar, it doesn't have a hidden ability that will move it up the ranks.

What will Shell Armor do to help Samurott? Nothing. Samurott has nothing I can see it getting in the future that will get it out of NU aside from Shell Smash, which it'll never get.

Reckless will indeed make Emboar better but in no way will it be "moving up the ranks" anytime soon, especially when UU has much better fire-types like Victini, Arcanine and Darmanitan. It will at least help Emboar differentiate itself from Entei somewhat at least.

Shame though that the gen 5 starters have to suck so much. Gen 4 starters were awesome with two of them being in OU last gen and the other one being able to hold its own in UU.

Samurott's actually my favorite Pokemon. I never play competitively so I have no reason to care about stats or it's movepool. Water is my favorite type, and I just think he looks suave as fuck. I will never pick favorites based off of how they do competitively.

Anyway I think Samurott is ok. Just giving my 2 cents. I love how most of the complaints are about how it simply differs from it's prevos even though it keeps the same central theme. Like there aren't a bunch of other Pokemon who do this also.
