Evening gents,

I just published my Android Pokedex called Dexter. It's taken me about a month to complete, and I'm fairly happy with the current results.

It's very minimalist in design ( both size, and style ), and I would really love feedback from Pokemon fans. I don't want to bloat it with useless information, I want to add in things people actually use.

misplaced my phone so I haven't downloaded yet, but I'm wondering what movelist you're using for the pokemon.
is it current with B2W2? or do you have options for multiple generations?
also, how different is the type color for psychic compared to poison?

First of all, the name is pretty bad, when searching dexter, I get tons of tv show crapware (although when it becomes more popular it might end higher in the search)
Second, because in the playstore search screen, the background is white, all I see is the red, not the pokeball.

Third, I know it's minimalistic, but you can't do a pokemon app with only picture, type and base stats. I know it's minimalistic, but then why are the base stats in there!! I'd personally use the ability much more often than the base stat.

Fourth, no list with all caught/all in team/etc, means you have to scroll through the list looking for pokeballs and checkmarks.

Fifth, no form changes? When typing is one of the very few kinds of information you offer, it better be correct. And it's not. wormadam is not bug/steel. Shaymin is not only grass.

Sixth, if it's minimalistic, why does it say POKEDEX and MAIN in bigass letters? Kind of subjective, but I don't think it looks very minimalistic.

I'd reccomend thinking of a real reason to use this pokedex. The caught/team stuff seems decent, but I can't even view my team! If it's meant to be minimalistic, the interface better look good.

It has potential, but I think it needs some work. And sorry if I sound to harsh, I'm just typing the first things that popped into my head while trying it.

I just looked at the google play, and saw a typedex, movedex, abilitydex, etc. That actually looks pretty good. If it had all that, I'd halfway consider using it.
(although it doesn't have enough information for my purpose, I like having egg group, height, weight, etc.)

minimalist is cool for a visual style, but when building a resource for a game that has lots of information, excluding most of that information isn't really helping you make a useful resource

First - It's not too bad if searching for Pokedex, it comes up with only 2 pages and it's nearly on the first. And the transparency is my bad, I'll need to correct that. Stupid store.

Third - I was planning to add more information based on feedback, and when I get more time, such as movelist, ability list, suggested moveset, a few things to help.

Fourth - Unsure what you mean, did you find the Teamdex?

Fifth - Another shortcut with lack of time, I plan to add those in. I can definitely fix anything wrong, I'll look into those. :)

Sixth - It's Windows Phone style, I guess. I thought it would help with the multiple pivots.

Invert the entire application? I thought about it. But I'm unsure of how to do that, actually. With Android, at least. I would have to load all different resources, with different colors.

I found the other dexes, apparently my swiping wasn't good the first time I tried..
The other dexes look fine, but I think it'd be better to make the popps with the move/ability a bit bigger.

I thought of a few more things, OP.

1. The versus mode should have a bunch of in-game battles you can choose from, and have it compare with their Pokemon instead. (I.e. gym leaders, elite four, organized by game)
2. You should have a slide-out thing on tablets like in Google's music app (pic related) with all the things you would normally swipe to view.
3. It'd be nice if you could choose which pokedex you wanted to use.

These are all pretty big requests, sorry.

Looks good, my advice:

1) make single types stretch all the way across as mentioned

2) sort abilities alphabetically, or give the option for sorting methods

3) get higher resolution sprites, unless there's some concern for keeping app size small

Secondary advice would be make it smoother if possible, add different local pokedexes, more stats like movesets, weight, etc

Tertiary advice would be extra stuff like people mentioned, team builder and whatnot

As a quick look up tool, with move sets added, it would be fantastic

Great job OP, and I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but there used to be several Pokedex type apps for Android, and Nintendo had them all removed. Don't be disappointed if the same fate befalls yours.

Dunno if OP is still reading this... but I finally found the move/ability/caught/team dex. I especially like the teamdex.

However, one more piece of feedback on especially the movedex and pokedex: I can't really match the name to the left to the type to the right. Maybe it's because I'm on a 7" tablet, but there's too much empty space. I'd reccomend making the lines that seperate the pokemon/moves a little thicker.

Also, good luck with this pokedex not getting taken down instantly.

Yeah, I was designing it from my phone's look, and I didn't use a tablet at all. I plan to go back and change the views for larger screens. Like, for Pokedex, add in the stats inbetween the name and type if it fits.

I'm trying to keep them fairly soft colours, but while sticking to the classic colours. Anything that really bugs you? I'm fixing poison to make it more pink. But do you dislike specific ones? Or all?

First, let me say that this looks really nice and works really well too. That said, I have a bunch of improvements I'd like to see:
Links between the various dexes, for example:
>Look up Dragonbreath
>Show list of Pokémon that learn Dragonbreath
>See Onix
>Tap to go to its page
>See its ability, Sturdy
>Tap "Sturdy" to go to list of Pokémon with Sturdy
Also, for the TypeDex, it'd be nice to have a list of Pokémon for each type and type combo. That way I can see which Water/Ground-type I want best (or something).

Also, for split evolutions like Gallade and Gardevoir, you could have them each take up half of the space, a la dual-types.

Animated sprites and/or shiny sprites would also be fantastic.

As for the colors, pic related should work for that.

It'd also be nice to arrange, sort and search easier. Type, Region, that sort of thing.

That's all I got! Props for including Fairy-type, btw!

I can probably do something with that idea, I'm just having problems collecting all the movesets for each Pokemon, if I had help it would be easy to actually program that in.

Perhaps just a button to list current types? Could be sweet.

I don't think that'd work. As with like Eevee, there are like 7 evolution. So, it would quickly get crushed. But I would like to make it better.

I actually have animated sprites, and they worked. But it made the app go from 1.3MB to ... 30MB.

Yeah, I really need to fix these colours.

I actually had sorting implemented, so thought it was kind of ugly. I'll have to clean it up and bring it back. I assume only on the Pokedex page.

Don't do that.
Non-factual info like this is heavily depending on how and where the pokemon is used. You're making a pokedex, not a strategy guide/analysis.

And if you feel the need to include something similar to that teambuilder on marriland, let it take levitate into account. You don't want to say Rotom-H has a crippling ground weakness, do you?

Loving it! What does bug me a lot, though, is that the type boxes have the wrong colours? Like poison, for example.

OP here, I've been working all day to fix everything up. Currently I'm nearly done the required fixes, and then I'll push an update and work on the suggested useful things.

I'd like to thank everyone that commented and gave advice on how to improve it.

If anyone is curious, here is the list of things that need fixed, or added. And for all you that wanted me to change the colours, don't worry. I did.

Fix

- Transparency on Icon
- Display tier (DONE)
- Typo: Verus instead of Versus (DONE)
- Poison Color: Red instead of Pink, maybe more purple (DONE)

- Alert: Fix Color, fix size (font size)
- New Users unable to find other pages ( Alert? ) **
- Pokedex: Single Type Pokemon should have streched type (DONE)
