It definitely was pretty broken. Glitches abound, none really game breaking unless you really fucked up, but they were abundant.

... I used to think that Crystal was the best Pokémon game. I've played gen 3, and I tought it was kinda boring. Not boring as Platinum, but still boring.
Platinum is slow as hell, and HG/SS has terrible level scale.

Today I started playing Black.

I've played for 3 hours.

Holy shit, this is the best Pokémon game ever. Everything is amazing.

Fair point but even under those circumstances there were more left out ideas in gen 2 than new ideas in other gens so you could still say gen 1 was more unfinished than other gens.
Source is concept art/sketches/text for RG. Can find it yourself with a little digging but I found out about it from TamashiiHiroka's videos.

I'm becoming more and more convinced that some people here have never played a series outside of Pokemon. The tier list for the competitive metagame is a fucking mile long, yet you're still convinced any of the games are fine-tuned to anything outside of friendly skirmishes.

That's because they fixed the problems. They would still be broken if we were under Gen 1 mechanics.

That nothing stated in this thread is at all game-breaking, and the only time they become extremely problematic is in the competitive metagame where people know how to take a ridiculous amount of advantage of it, like ubers or Gen IV Garchomp or sneaky pebbles.
