honestley it's the actual GAME that made me not want to play it. the fighting mechanics needed much more work (until gen 3 got it right), and most of the pokemon were just... bad.
yes, most were not the best in the world. for every hitmonlee or charizard, there were a dewgongs, farfetch'd, goldeen, and diglett.
i don't care what the fuck anyone says, gen 1 ISN'T the best gen. THERE IS NO BEST GEN

no matter what generation you look at, they all have their problems
gen 1 was too rusty in terms of game mechanics, gen 2 never really used the new pokemon to their advantage, gen 3 just says fuck you to gen 1 and 2 the entire time, gen 4 is mostly just retreads of past pokemon by giving useless prevolutions or upsetting new evolutions, and gen 5 is too short and too easy.
