Anyone else not really liking this guy? I'm not usually one to dislike a Pokemon just because it's an inanimate object (I love the Klink and Litwick lines), but... Christ, it's just a sword. I hope it evolves into something a bit nicer looking.

Voltorb (as well as the lines that I mentioned before) have clearly recognizable faces and look like creatures to an extent. Monorpale really just looks like an object with no real life (lol ghost) to it.

Monorpale does have a face though. Those circles that resemble closed eyes (with a gem-like eye on top), and a mouth. The "cloth" that's attached to its hilt also looks hand-like.

Voltorb is just a ball with two eyes. Monorpale is a sword with one eye and a hand like tassel. It also has a pseudo face with the sheath on. The main difference is, Monorpale has a better justification for it's look because of its typing. Possessed objects are not uncommon in fiction, and they usually don't become too anthropomorphic when possessing things.

Living swords are nothing new. If it being an overused living inanimate object is your issue that's fine but that's not what you said, you said it was just a sword which implied a sword has less reason to be a Pokémon than ice cream and magnets. OP used the "IT'S JUST A ___" argument. It's a bad argument and makes you look like and idiot, because there is probably a Pokémon that you do like that does the same (like Klink in the op's example). Just say you don't like x mon and stop there. It really isn't that hard.

Why do people keep saying this? Didn't we already get that with Golurk? Even if it was a statue, it's pretty much modeled after a suit of armor. Is it because it doesn't look like a generic suit of armor from the middle ages? I just feel it'd be wasted potential to make another ghost Pokemon like that when we have Golurk. Because it's a mask. We've seen other Pokémon with masks as far back as Cubone. With a sword using a sheath as a mask makes perfect sense.

I should have said that differently. Take Garbodor for example. He's another inanimate object, a trash can, but he does have a recognizable face and limbs. But Hitotsuki is just a sword. That's it.

If you legitimately like Litwick and Klink lines but dislikes this guy, I would be surprised. We still need to meet his line though.
Oh well, pokémon has never been realistic, if they say this is a ghost sword, then it isn't an ordinary sword.
If it looks like a regular sword to you, I'd guess you are just too used to the thousands of swords from different fantasy games.
Opinions will always be opinions, for instance I personally like Litwick's line but I dislike Klink's. Have a good day anon.
