SSFIV 3D was all I wanted from a portable fighter, loved that game to pieces. Its a shame that it didn't update to AE, then 2012.

When I got a 3DS, I bought SSFIV and Pokemon Black. Didn't touch Black for a few days, then I finally decided to put it in, then it rekindled my love for Pokemon.

This seems like a good a thread as any to ask:

I haven't bought a 3ds yet but with Pokemon XY and the new SSB on there way I'm pretty sure I am. I have the money now but I'm wondering if there is any reason to wait till october to buy one as well as if there are any advantages to the 3ds over the XL. Basically if the XL cant fit in my pocket that could get annoying and though the big screen is nice would it water down the image since I'm sure the resolution is the same

I've had no problems with the resolution on the XL. Actually, now it's tough to go back. The smaller screen looks insanely tiny.

Also, the XL has a wider field of vision for the 3D effect (or so I hear), and better battery life. Unless portability is very important to you, I'd go with the XL.

I would suggest trying both, really
From what I've seen, for most people the size is the deal breaker
Some people think the 3DS is too small to handle normally, and others think the XL is way too big to fit in their pockets
I'm not entirely sure about the resolution thing, but I think it does water down the image
Personally, I like the original better, but it's all a matter of comfort

I actually just looked online and found out that the 3ds xl is smaller than the dsi xl (which I have) so as a result it will be less anoying to move around than that, so the XL seems like the logical choice here.

The funny thing is that the PSP is just NOW starting to get decent emulation even the PSP came out around 2004 to 2005 and should have around less then half the power of the 3DS. If it took almost a decade to get decent emulation for the PSP I wonder how long it will take to get decent emulation for the 3ds.

And oh yeah, lets not forget that the 3ds's firmware or game cart encrytion is STILL not cracked open yet unlike the PSP's.

I have the money, I just need to go out and buy the 3DS. I'll probably end up getting the regular since the extra portability of the regular one is a bonus (and I don't have to buy a separate charger).

As for games, I'll obviously be getting X/Y when it comes out but what other good games are there? I was thinking of getting:

My phone and normal 3DS fit snugly into one pocket. A 3DS XL would have the pocket reserved to itself and make me look like I have a brick in my pants. My 3DS is in my backpack most of the time though.

If you have the original DS phat on you, the 3DS XL is pretty much the same size. Use that as a comparison.

Personally, the 3DS is too small for me, and my hands aren't even that big. I have a carrying case for it anyway, so travel size isn't much of an issue. Also, the plastic and overall build of the XL seems much sturdier than the 3DS's, and it also is less of a fingerprint magnet than the original's.

Funnily enough, the thing keeping me from getting an XL is the battery life (I do carry my handhelds around so obviously I am a socially-outcast neckbeard am I right). I can get about 8-10 hours+ full settings depending on the battery I use on my 3DS (which typically go for about 10 or so bucks). The XL has third-party batteries too but right now they cost around a hundred dollars and make the console ridiculously large. You could make the case that I would never play with a console 10 hours non-stop without charge, but that's pretty asinine and disregards convenience, real-life scenarios and battery life ultimately being a key spec for all portable electronics.

So I'll probably be sticking with the 3DS for a while, but that's me.
