If you assume Steelix can be seen as a cylinder of 9m length and roughly 1.5 - 2m diameter, then it ends up having a density of like 20 - 30kg/m^3.
Given how real rocks have densities in the few thousands of kg/m^3, and actual steel is like 8,000, you can see how Gamefreak really couldn't give less of a shit about those numbers they puke into the 'dex.
Also, Wailord has a density somewhere between Nitrogen and Helium, sure it's mean to be a Float Whale pokémon but seriously, this sort of density means it's literally nothing more than a cloud of helium wrapped in paper, no room for organs or anything.
I'm sure most pokémon have this problem, but it's very pronounced in rock- and steel-types.
