The density of steel is 7859 kg per cubic meter.
Mass = Volume x Density
Mass / Density = Volume

Therefore, Steelix has a maximum volume of 0.05 cubic meters of steel material -- assuming that no other material contributes to its mass.

You aren't seriously looking for realism in a game with ghosts and dragons and anthropomorphism, are you?

Also, weight is a game mechanic in Pokemon so that's another reason why realism is compromised.

Yeah, I started working on this post in response to two anons saying steel type pokemon are steel, not metal in general, so they can't be made out of a lighter metal to reconcile the weights. The context was lost when the original thread was deleted though.

Volume of steel = 84,686,823 cm^3 = 84.69 m^3

Total mass = 17,051,696 kg + 665,554 kg = 17,717,250 kg

This is just short 39 million pounds at normal earth gravity.
