What are the best pokemon of each type in the first generation? I know there probably isn't an easy answer, so I guess you can put a couple of pokemon to each type

Arcanine surely isn't better than Charizard. Less resistances, no Swords Dance or Slash, or a second STAB...

Forgot about Charizard. He's probably better in gen 1 since Earthquake was so common.

But the rest are probably alright (Bug being the only other arguable one).

Charizard or Moltres is best fire
Scyther is best bug
Chansey is better than Persian, but Tauros is still best normal type
Jynx is best Ice type.

Do you think having speed and crit tied together was a bad thing? It just meant it attacked first, and ideally could have been balanced so that high speed pokemon did little base damage

Actually, all the first gen starters were pretty awesome.
But Charmander had it the hardest with being weak to the first two gyms
