I know I'm opening myself up for hate here, but this is a design I made awhile back. I like things with a little more going on, so I made him more badger like and inadvertently more bear like. I know they've had a thing for swirls on fire starters lately, which I don't mind and I thought it would work for a more smokey effect in the design. Don't have much to say for the Quilava or remnants of cyndaquil you can see.

I think most people would label it as overdesigned, but I really like it. He doesn't look like an angry Cyndaquil anymore. I think the flames should still look like standard Cyndaquil/Quilava/Typhlosion, but I like everything else about it.

I really wonder about people's definitions of overdesigned. I didn't even add a single extra stripe or spike detail. I changed his silhouette, made him more vicious, and added some swirling effects.

Technically choosing Chikorita fucks you over (first two gyms are super effective towards poor Chikorita, and it's defensive-based).

A simple solution is to give it good coverage moves to use off its SpAttack. Earth Power is a fantastic solution that instantly makes it better with a simple change; Energy Ball does similarly.

Best ability would be Drought: guaranteed Eruption + Solarbeam coverage makes it a more offensive Ninetales

No, you can't fix a fire type pokemon. You made a new one better. Look what Happened with Flareon, Tottaly overruler by Darmanitan in every aspect.

I can only think that giving him Flash fire isn't enough. Drought could be nice.

I understand that they're both Fire types with high base Attack, but that's the only valid comparison you can make, much less make judgments on how one has eclipsed the other's (very different) roles.
