What does /vp/ prefer, classic E4 where they get stronger in order, or Gen 5 style where they're all the same level?

Personally, I massively prefer the former. Playing past gens blind and not knowing E4 and champ levels gave a huge but enjoyable "OH SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT" factor that gave a better sense of accomplishment in my view.

Gen 5 model simply because I like the idea of the E4 being equally strong individuals.

In older gens because of the regular trainings, the first two guys of the E4 ended up being underleveled as fuck and I don't have that prob in gen 5

In terms of gameplay, I preferred the increase in levels from prior gens.

However, I do think that Gen V's method made more sense for the setting, and didn't find it that detrimental to gameplay, so it's the one I prefer overall.

Easily the old style. In Gen 5, one or two pokemon could sweep entire members' teams and gain enough exp to steamroll the champ. In past gens even if you had one pokemon solo a member, it wouldn't be able to continue doing so due to higher levels

I want to combine them. Not knowing what you're going into before you go into it was a neat mechanic, so you wouldn't be fighting the dark guy first every time. But then it loses its luster because if you're level 55 fighting the team of level 50s, you already know you can beat them. If everyone's the same level and the first one was no challenge, the rest are no challenge either.

A combined system of
>4 random, unlabeled doors
>automatically battle right when you get in, no chance to swap your party once you see all the ghosts or the fighting ring
>once you beat them at level 50-55, the next member is level 53-58, next is 57-60, and then 60-65 no matter who it is

They could have perfectly made Jynx and Piloswine available for example, that way the Ice maiden could at least get rid of NFE bulllshit and stop being an embarassment
