IV's are dumb because they're very difficult to detect and are almost completely uncontrollable.

EV's are irritating but manageable. Gen 6 is increasing there visibility, so they may very well not suck. I think fully resetting your EV's should be easier.

If understanding the mechanics of something makes you like it less, then I feel bad for you will never enjoy any job.

You should look beyond the numbers and values.
Think about the lore and meaning.

IVs are basically the genes of a Pokémon, the DNA. How much talent it has in a specific stat.

EVs would be the experience and knowledge of the Pokémon. After beating 200 Pidgeys the Pokémon would obviously be fast because it has trained on fast Pokémon.

That implies that there are people who only like the next gen games and think everything before that was shit. I'm not talking about the fact that Red and Blue were bugged (that's a fact) but as in thinking all of the older pokemon designs were shit and that even for their era the games were terrible. I have never met someone like that, and I don't think there are many people on /vp/ like that. Hitmonlee kicks your Pokemon, your Pokemon gets better defense because it learns to absorb and take hits.

beat pidgeotto = +speed

HP, now thats a tricky one.

i guess against grass/bug/poison pokemon that have status moves. you learn to get better vitality if you fight against toxic/paralyzers

IV's aren't actually that difficult to get right if you have 6 dittos with one perfect stat each and the power items. It does take time but to make a pokemon with the right nature IV's and EV's should only take a few hours.

my heracross for example, found it with a careful nature, and decided to give it half sp def, half speed, and then the full 252 for attack.

hes not as fast but takes special hits like a boss

If Machop did not hit you at all, you get +Attack EV after you win the battle.

It made it feel more personal training my pokemon up. I could pretend to make up certain training regimens for different EVs and pokemon. (Tuesday, go to Route X, Wednesday, go to route Y and train there, etc.)

It's like doing lifts one day, jogging the next, squats, etc.

EVs/IVs are NEVER directly mentioned as such. It's always potential and effort, and no numbers are ever given. It's less fourth wall breaking than being able to look at your Pokemon's current stats.

If you're EV training an entire team that should only take a couple days at most. Not two weeks.
If you're stupid enough to try to get into competitive play on cart then there's no helping you. Even with Pokegen it's a bad medium for competitive play. Nobody plays competitively on cart and legitimately makes everything from scratch. NOBODY.

It never killed fun for me. The fact that I battled the same way I did when I first played Pokemon as a kid is what made me tired of the whole series. Pick my strongest attack and win. Maybe use Recover or Sleep Powder sometimes. IVs, EVs, and nature picking is just something I ignore though the subway was a good way of making a non-competitive person interested in it. I just hate wasting my time grinding like that, I just can't do that shit anymore. I know there's the vitamins and macho brace but it's still way too much grinding for me. I have no problem with other people having fun with this stuff. I just hate it when people act like the combat is suddenly deep or something for it.
