Okay, so I am completely new to everything Pokeman.

I just started Firered, which is really my first serious game, other than niggling around in Platinum.

This is where you get mad at me. My team is a level 17 Wartortle, and a level 4 Pidgey. I just beat Brock's gym. Wat do? How make Pakman team be best? Wat pecrations?

Oh, and HM-taught moves can't be erased.
Of all the HM-taught moves, Surf and Fly are the most useful in battle.

Also, for the love of god use more than your starter. Use at least three pokemon and keep them roughly equal.

Go back to the Viridian forest RIGHT NOW and catch a pikachu. Once he has eventually learned thunderbolt (or thunder froma TM) evolve him to a Raichu with the thunderstone. Also, get a good psychic type early.

It's Gen 3, so they can. There's a guy in Fuchsia City how will delete HMs. Being stuck with cut until then sucks, though.

Going back to Viridian forest and catching a pikachu would be a good idea, you need more than just a water type Pokemon.

Beyond that though, just get and train whatever Pokemon you like. As long as you have a good variety of different types you should be fine.

Oh, and other than fly and surf most HM moves are pretty shitty, so you'll want to have one Pokemon you never use in battle that you just teach HM moves to. You need them to progress in the game and this way they won't clog up your other pokemons move sets. Catch a rattata or something for this.

Okay OP, here's what you do.
>for a easy playthrough just use your starter
>for a tougher but more rewarding playthrough use 6 pokemon with different types and keep them all evenly levelled
>use legendaries if you want don't listen to the elitests
