I do the same, but only care for games with custom gender+name like post-Crystal Pokémon and recent Harvest Moon games.

Although I prefer a gender selection, the lack of one doesn't bother me much and without one I use default names like Red, Gold, Wes, and Michael.

Male this time. Character named is Xisse.
I hadn't decided a name for him so I'd just been calling him Six for the time-being. Then I had the idea to reverse it, since it would start with an X and that's the version I'm getting, but Xis on its own looked a bit weird. Xisse on the other hand is the same pronunciation and looks a lot better.
