No they didn't. From the very beginning there was a shitstorm over the director's comments on the official site and how they implied (now confirmed) that it wasn't the same Mewtwo, thought this was dismissed by those in denial as him simply changing mentally thanks to the moonrunes being somewhat ambiguous.

I don't see how it's a reset.
Everyone who knew about the first Mewtwo was either killed when it fucked the lab or had their memory wiped when it flew off into friendship.

I find it likely they'll just say someone survived Mewtwo's rage, and tried again while also giving it a greater sense of purpose and morality. Either that or someone found research notes from the original experiment, and tried to do it again without knowing that that a Mewtwo had already been created.

Well it can't be a reset, because we saw Ash recognize Mewtwo. Either he doesn't know it's not the same Mewtwo, or it is a continuity reset and what we saw was the middle of the movie where he was already told about the new Mewtwo.
