>>12969220Hey, you've got people in real life who like to keep skunks, lions, tigers, bears, dogs bred to fight bears, giant reptiles, giant venomous reptiles, elephants, wolves, sharks, and all sorts of other potentially dangerous creatures as pets and even as personal friends. It's not hard to believe that people would TOTALLY keep flaming horses, electric mice, dragons, and even monsters and ghosts as pets if they could. You would totally see episodes of Fatal Attraction in real life about the guy who got eaten by his Victreebell or mauled by his Hydreigon if Pokemon were real.
The only place where I have to suspend my disbelief is that that keeping the more dangerous Pokemon isn't regulated by anybody. No real government would ever let some kid find a genetically-engineered clone monster created as a weapon by an international criminal organization and walk around with it in a ball in their pocket. Same goes for ghost Pokemon, toxic abominations born of radioactive pollution, and anything with fire, poison, or particle beams.
Consider this: Totodile's Dex entry basically says that it runs around biting its owner a lot harder that it means to. We try to get rid of dog breeds for the same behavior. You would totally see lawsuits and bans if some soccer mom's kid got a Totodile from the dude next door and ended up losing a digit or something.
That would basically make the protags the Bindi Irwins of Pokemon for running around with the Pokemon people usually main.
Pic related. It's what happens every time your kids decide to have a Pokemon battle in their rooms instead of the backyard like you've asked for the thousandth time.
