The way I see it you would go though say the first gen normally and once you beat the champion or whatever the fuck you would get a whatever ticket to the next area where you get a new starter and are allowed to take over 2 pokemon that are level 5 or lower. All other pokemon you have are put in a box until you beat all 6 regions.

This would take a lot of memory and would probably be more suited to a game on the wiiu or some shit. Generally people that are casuals however

You beat the Elite 4 for the first time. You go into the registry room with the Champion and deposit your Pokemon into the PC to become the new Champion. All of a sudden the power goes out. Evil team stole your Pokemon and shuts down the PC system. They board their boat/airship/whatever contrived form of transportation and take off to the next region. The police run in and see that the new Champion has had their Pokemon stolen. They believe you're worthy to become an honorary officer. They give you a ticket to the SS Anne or whatever and refer you to the Pokemon Professor of the region. With YOUR team, the evil organization becomes Champions of the next region and you have to get the badges and take them on.

This is the way to do it. A lot of each region is redundant compared to other regions. No need for 5 early game forests and caves. No need for multiple breeding places. Shit like that.

Instead you go to different parts of each region. Use the SS Anne, Unova Plane, Magnet Train, etc to sort of get a taster of half or so of each region in a new story. Have parts of each region blocked off in the main quest. Then open them through post game quests (oh this cave is no longer caved in, etc.). Re-purpose all the post game areas, change layouts and expand old caves (new basement floors discovered) and put Legends in them, add dive to every region's water routes. Stuff like that. Just going through each region in the same order with the same story is pointless and you might as well just play each game separately.

Asspull after asspull after asspull.
While traveling throughout the region, the weather seems all fucked up. Turns out its Team Magma and Team Aqua are now teamed up together and took over the Hoenn Elite 4. They summoned both Groudon and Kyogre and have a double battle for Elite Four Champion. You have to leave the current region you're in and take down Hoenn's corrupt Elite Four. After that, Maxie and Archie reveal that Aqua and Magma were just stalling so Team Plasma can bring back Cyrus with Giratina. Lights flash off first team steals your Pokemon. You travel over to Gen IV's region, get a new starter, kick dicks blah blah blah. After you defeat Cyrus, your Pokemon are stolen again. You find out Giovanni organized Team Plasma and Team Aqua Magma and travel to Kanto. You do a reverse Gen II where you start in Kanto and then travel to Johto kicking dicks in. After you beat the Elite Four your Pokemon are stolen again. Blah blah blah new Evil team is the leaders of all villainous teams and now the Elite Four is comprised of your Pokemon teams that were stolen along the way

All of the rivals are your rival. Blue, Silver, Wally, Brendan, May, Barry, Cheren, Bianca, Hugh, and the Gen 6 rivals all periodically appear no matter what region you're in.

Mapping out the first 4 regions wouldn't be hard on something like Essentials where the map maker is very easy to use compared to shit like romhacking. I've mapped out Kanto and Johto and it didn't take too long. Wouldn't be difficult especially with a team helping out to do every region. Making an original story donut steal and changing up the regions like >>12977281 is suggesting would take more time and effort though.

The whole "versions" thing isn't so much about encouraging trading and battling with other people as much as it is about making more money from people buying multiples of what is essentially the same game

If the evolution requires an item, a lot of the time there's only one of them to be normally found in the main game, with any additional ones being either unobtainable, obtained rarely from wild pokemon, or requiring a ton of runs in battle facilities

You aren't doing this. You are literally just rotating the d-pad and pressing A until the monster is dead because by the time you start looking for these items/weapons you already have a pretty high level and can essentially beat every thing but superbosses in one hit.

Yeah, in-game they barely make a difference. Try playing competitive. IVs are a big reason why most people don't even bother playing on cartridges. It's dumb to have a feature that's a hassle for competitive players when it affects casual players little to none.

There are NPCs who tell you what Hidden Power you have, but in order to be sure about IVs as well you also have to level up until around level 15 or so (maybe higher, maybe lower).

Gen V was fairly cool at this because of post-game high-leveled Audinos and the fact that the weaker pokemon sent out gets the bulk of the exp. Still a lot of effort, though.

Getting a maximum strength hidden power of your desired type alongside the desired nature usually requires cheat devices, save editors, or divine intervention

And 75% of special attackers have movepools shitty enough to require hidden power, too

Although it does appear that Gamefreak is becoming more aware of the competitive scene. I wouldn't be surprised if gen VI introduced items that made IV breeding easier. Hold items that guarantee the transfer of a certain IV, or maybe even a certain training regimen to select in the day care.

I don't know if anyone else thought that back when breeding was first introduced in gen 2, that the more you bread, the stronger your pokemon would be. IVs should work that way. Successive generations of breeding will lead to better IVs until they are maxed out.

They'd stay mostly randomized for the first ~50 levels, and then start rising past that until they have full 31s at 100

Hidden power is a fixed 70 bp and can have its type changed by npcs

This way, casuals can keep muh individuality, breeders can be as autistic as they want, competitive players can get their precious stats, and the series can have a subtle "hard work>=talent" message

Grinding a Pokémon to level 100 is still not very pleasant, though. Most Pokémon games make it difficult to get past 80 or so because wild pokemon and trainers don't have high enough levels.

There's really like, no point for this because it would just make the game longer than it has to be.

That and most of the meat of playing a region is -- believe it or not -- the plot. This suggests bringing back shit like Team Rocket and Magma just so those places would be exciting and that would be just downright nutty. The idea of old evil teams coming back just sounds like no one paid attention to the plot, really.

In mid-late gameplay, you're right I hardly see a thing. But you can tell early in a game when your shit IV poke gets outsped by something or doesn't take a hit as well as it should. I only notice in Nuzlocke runs though, since there's more pressure.
