So X & Y comes out in 3 months and backwards compatibility is still being "worked on." At this point the only major changes they will make to the game will be things like the User Interface and bug testing. I'm going to guess that migration is not going to happen for Gen 6.

If migration doesn't happen, I'll personally do whatever I can to reverse engineer the game such that players can hack up teams. There's no point attempting to train teams for hundreds of hours or even filling up your Pokedex if GF sets a precedent of forcing us to restart everything every few generations.

There have been gens where it just hasnt happened before, and if there are obvious solutions to migration like 3DS aps and they still hadn't figured it out 5 months to launch there's obviously another reason backwards compatibility wont work this time around. If they're adding a type and hidden power is calculated with IVs, they're probably going to need to add IVs again like they did in Gen 3 which was the reason Gen 3 wasn't backwards compatible. .

because they want to make sure the gen 6 game mechanics are final, if they'd done the backwards compatibility first, they'd have to change it every time they do something with the rest of the game, which would be a waste of time

Gen 3 wasn't backwards compatible because they overhauled the entire data structure. They're not going to disallow transferring because of one move. There are multiple easy solutions I can figure out right now:

>simply don't do hidden power fairy
>just change the formula and let some pokemon get their hidden power changed- better than not allowing transferring at all
>make it so previous pokemon have the old formula while new pokemon use a new one

Backwards compatibility isn't something you tack on at the last minute. It's something you have to keep in mind while you build your game. In Gen 2, they didn't split the DVs for special even though they split the stat itself just so that Pokemon from Gen 1 could still be transferred over. They also calculated shininess and gender via DVs for the same reason. If they hadn't had backwards compatibility in mind from the start, we'd have gotten a personality value in Gen 2 instead of 3.

I knew from the second X/Y came out that we wouldn't see backwards compatibility. GF did that on purpose because there wouldn't be any marketing special distributions without it.

Also it leaves a reason open for remakes.

It is actually possible, dragon quest has done it, they could recalculate IV's while maintaining Hidden Power's Power and Type and HP (whatever) using a separate app, or directly from game to game. If they won't it just goes to show how retarded they are.
