Look at nidoran. That shits not overdesigned, that shits not just a (insert whatever the fuck nidoran is supposed to be here).

Despite what the gen4 splerglords here believe, people dont just like to complain. They want simple yet unique designs. Not "add spikes and appendages here" or "it's an ice cream cone with eyes." Another example is diglett, it's a mole but its not really a mole at all.

There's a reason no one really like Taurus or Magneton much, because that shit was just an animal with extra marking/magnets.

It's not really made out of cotton candy. It's fur is just incredibly sticky and sweet due to the fact that it only eats sweet things.
