Hey guys. I'm about to start a new file on my Crystal for old times, but I've read about the batteries dying which makes them unable to save. Now, my Crystal's battery isn't dead, nor my Gold, Yellow, Red, or Blue. My Silver's battery did die, but I bought it used. What determines the battery to die out? Is it the amount of time you have played on it? And also, has anyone ever tried replacing a battery in an old color game before? I've seen videos, but I'm afraid if I try it I'll somehow fuck it up. I read that the reason Crystal/Gold/Silver games batteries die faster is because they have the night and day transition.

Has anyone tried replacing the battery? Experiences?

Hi the battery is a ticking time bomb that manages the real time clock feature and your save game. It will slowly drain over time until you can't save your game anymore. Mine died and I replaced it kinda the gehto way with scotch tape...

I replaced my Pokemon Silver/Cousins Gold a few weeks ago with a CR2032 (the original battery is a cr2032, basically the battery I replaced with is slightly thicker and last longer) Surprisingly my Crystal still saves. My red, yellow, blue x 3, cousins red/yellow also all saves. The time keeper really does a number on the battery life for gold, silver and crystal. Soldering is a good skill to have. The solder pads on the gameboy colors are easy to desolder (with solder wick or pump). Heck, you can even heat it up and just pull. Also I back up my saves with this. I just need to get another card that ataches to this so I can back it up to my computer.

>>13026155 I used a 2015 which was the same as the one inside of Gold. It works fine now I guess I'll get more time out of it. It feels go to know that you can fix it. The old games were some of the best imo.
